The game of Anamules is both straightforward and enjoyable. Certain outcomes after a shot yield different "Anamules." For instance, a player who swings and completely misses the ball is awarded a Bat, while losing a ball in the rough results in obtaining a Quail, and landing in a sand trap leads to receiving a Camel. In total, there are twenty Anamules available in the game.

Each Anamule can only be possessed by one player at a time, transferring between players according to shot outcomes. It is possible for a player to earn multiple Anamules on a single shot; for example, bouncing a shot off the cart path into the sand trap would yield both the Armadillo and the Camel.

A system of rewards exists for good play. A player achieving a birdie can gift one Anamule to any other player, while an eagle allows for sharing two Anamules. Achieving a hole-in-one results in forfeiting all acquired Anamules to other players.

The player holding the most Anamules assumes the role of Zookeeper with accompanying obligations during the round. The Zookeeper is responsible for purchasing beverages or snacks from the beverage cart when it passes. Once this obligation is completed, all Anamules return to the Zoo, signaling a Reset and the commencement of another round without any Anamules. The game fun begins anew. At the end of the round, the Zookeeper treats the group to beverages and an appetizer in the clubhouse.

An interactive app provides real-time tracking of all Anamules and scores for each player. Course details such as hole number, yardage, par, and handicap are conveniently displayed on the app. Multiple players can be invited within the app, enabling live scoring updates to be viewed on their phones if they have also downloaded the app. Each player has the ability to edit and view scores throughout the round.
